Windows 7 overtakes Mac OSX
It's been reported this week that Windows 7 has overtaken Mac OSX in terms of worldwide users. While this is only a very marginal superiority at present, it's a statistic that was always inevitable.
Windows based computers have over 90% of market share - but Microsoft are still pushing Windows 7 very hard at the moment, with TV campaigns, internet videos and such being thrown at us consumers left, right and centre. Maybe after the flogging Vista has got, they felt they needed to.
I'm yet to use Windows 7, and in all honesty, I probably never will use it for any length of time, but I'm yet to hear anything bad about it. For a new Windows release, this is quite amazing. Even the trusty old work horse of Windows XP got some pretty bad press in the beginning.
What really amazes me is how Apple, and others, have failed to capitalise of Microsofts past follies. I saw the move of Apple to Intel as a sign that they may well be about to unleash thier software on the wider community, but no dice. Can't really blame them, the Mac faithful will continue to spend upwards of £1000 on a MacBook Pro, which is better for Apple than if you bought a Dell for £300 and stuck OSX on it.
For Microsoft, I really hope their next mission is to do a good job on Internet Explorer 9, and as soon as possible. Oh and while they're at it, cancel support of IE6!.
